At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025, a shooter wearing body armor and armed with a powerful rifle stormed a 44-story office tower in Midtown Manhattan. He opened fire on innocent people, including a New York City police officer who was working security, before killing himself on the 33rd floor.
The shooter is identified as Shane Devon Tamura, a Vegas resident who is 27 years old, according to law enforcement authorities.
What Happened
Shane entered the lobby fully armored in body armor and started firing rounds from a powerful rifle, striking an NYPD officer serving as building security. The shooting took place inside the opulent office tower at 345 Park Avenue, which is home to major power players like Blackstone, NFL headquarters, KPMG, and Bank of America. At the scene, the cop passed away.
Four persons, including the off-duty police officer, were confirmed dead by local media agencies. At a nearby hospital, a fifth person is still in serious condition and fighting for their life.
The NYPD signaled a significant emergency response by deploying a Level 3 deployment. A bomb squad was also dispatched to the area, and tactical forces are actively responding to the situation.
The victims’ identities have not yet been made public.
The attack’s motivation is still unknown, and it’s not apparent if it was targeted or random.
Investigation is ongoing. The public has been asked to stay away from the area and seek shelter if they are in the vicinity. The area is being searched by authorities for any new threats.
