San Gabriel River UPDATE, Georgetown TX PD Ask To Vacate Area

San Gabriel River Update

Since Saturday morning, July 5th, videos of Georgetown flooding along the South San Gabriel River have been trending on various social media platforms as locals try to exercise caution because to the astounding flooding that has occurred in central Texas over the last two days. Authorities have ordered some apartments along the river to be evacuated.

We are advising residents of Two Rivers, San Gabriel, and Waters Edge apartments to evacuate due to the rising river levels. Shelter is available at the Georgetown Recreation Center, 1003 N. Austin Ave., and First United Methodist Church, 410 E. University Ave.” Georgetown TX Police said.

Tropical downpours on Friday night dumped more than 15 inches of rain. Residents in the vicinity predict that by noon today, the water level, which was knee deep yesterday, will have risen another 24 feet.

Additionally, Burnet County and portions of western Travis and Williamson counties have been inundated by severe rainfall that began Saturday morning.

The river on its side is also severely damaging the Ronald Reagan Bridge in Leander, which is nearly completely covered. Water is often 100 yards from neighbors’ backyards.
