Kalista Hallberg was recognized by the Muscatine, Iowa Police Department on Monday night, June 30, 2025, as the woman who died in a terrible act of violence at Hy-Vee. At 2:01 p.m. on Monday, June 30th, several reports of gunfire were sent to MUSCOM from the Muscatine Hy-Vee, located at 2400 2nd Avenue.

Suspect

Ian Antonio Hernandez, the male suspect from 7171 W. 60th Street, Davenport, Iowa, is critically injured and may not survive. According to preliminary investigations, the shooting started as a result of a domestic argument between Hernandez, the defendant, and Hallberg, the victim.

Hernandez drove off in a red Chrysler minivan after the altercation. The car was found by officers at the junction of Highways 61 and 38. They saw him with a gunshot wound to his own body as they approached the car.

Hernandez received medical attention from the officers until the Muscatine Fire Department officials showed up.

Hernandez was flown to the University of Iowa Hospital after being taken by the Muscatine Fire Department to UnityPoint Health-Trinity Hospital. According to officials, Hernandez is presumed innocent until and until a court of law proves otherwise.
