After suffering terrible injuries in a fatal vehicle accident on the Lawrence Expressway at Benton Street, not far from his family’s house, 16-year-old Isaiah Mendoza, a junior at Wilcox High School and a native of Santa Clara, California, passed away. Isaiah Mendoza reportedly lost control and collided with a pole while traveling north on the Lawrence Expressway.
The Santa Clara Police Department reports that the accident occurred on Saturday night, September 20, 2025, at approximately 11:40 p.m.
According to the Santa Clara Police Department, Mendoza was inside a Honda Accord when police arrived at the scene of the incident. The Santa Clara Fire Department attempted to save Mendoza’s life, but he was declared dead at the spot.
Two young passengers in the Accord were treated on the spot after suffering minor injuries. The collision also included another car, a Toyota Camry that was being driven by a minor. The driver is assisting investigators and was not hurt.
Police say the Honda hit the Toyota and then swerved into a traffic signal post at an intersection while both cars were heading north. Although the precise speed has not yet been established, investigators think the Honda may have been going beyond the posted speed limit.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
