The Hawthorne Fire Department was summoned to the scene of a motor vehicle collision involving a fully laden tri-axle dump truck, an unidentified make and a model SUV at around 11:27 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. The collision happened at the junction of Goffle Hill Road and Fairview Avenue.
After responding to the mass casualty incident, several law enforcement, fire/rescue, and emergency medical services organizations verified that there was an entrapment with a pole and downed wires. Additionally, a diesel fuel spill from the dump truck prompted the need for a hazardous materials response team.
For hours, traffic on a number of local roadways was diverted. The overturned dump truck will not be removed from the scene until Thursday, June 12 due to the downed power pole. Be cautious when approaching the scene of the event until it has been cleared if you are in that vicinity.
Investigators at the scene of the incident reported that two (2) patients were taken to nearby hospitals in different ambulances. Additionally, there were unverified allegations of a first responder being taken to a hospital aswell. Authorities have not yet revealed who they are.
There are still more details to come.
