Dacara Thompson, 19, was discovered dead after going missing in Hyattsville, Maryland, on August 22 for about two weeks. Dacara’s body was discovered along the South River off Route 50 close to Annapolis, more than 30 feet from a bridge.
Dacara disappeared after leaving her father’s house in Lanham, Maryland, according to preliminary investigations. After telling her father she was going to buy gas and would be back shortly, she was captured on camera getting into a black SUV at around three in the morning. Concern was raised right away when her car was subsequently found in Hyattsville with her possessions still inside.
What Happened To Dacara Thompson
Police discovered several pairs of women’s underwear, blood, a wig, and one of Thompson’s fingernails during a search warrant of Hernandez-Mendez’s house in the hunt for Dacara.
Hugo Hernandez-Mendez, 35, has been taken into custody by police and charged with Dacara’s murder. According to authorities, Hernandez-Mendez’s home is most likely where Thompson’s life was taken and later he dumped her body off the side of a highway.
Hugo is an illegal immigrant who was out on bail for a DUI arrest in April but released pending trial. He has been charged with first- and second-degree murder. ICE issued a detainer against him on Thursday after he was arrested for Thompson’s murder.
The issue has garnered a lot of attention and outrage. Prince George’s County politicians have offered their condolences and promised support to Thompson’s bereaved family, while Maryland Governor Wes Moore has called Thompson a “bright light” and promised to ensure justice.
The news is still developing, and more information will be released soon.
