The internet has taken notice of the news that Shanteari Young has been released from prison. After nearly four years in prison, Shanteari, the owner of a daycare in Baltimore County, is set free for good behavior and is currently in a halfway house in D.C.
She was convicted of shooting her then-husband, former Baltimore City police officer James Weems, when she discovered he was sexually assaulting children at her facility in Owings Mills, Maryland.
She entered a guilty plea to carrying a pi*tol without a license and aggr@vated @ssault. The prosecutors’ recommended sentence was doubled.
The encounter took place in a hotel in Washington, D.C. Shanteari’s punishment at the time provoked a nationwide discussion, with others arguing that her actions weren’t bad.
“She should NOT have been there in the first place. We support you, Shanteari Young.” @_romeko said on X.
What Happened To James Weems
In November 2024, the former Baltimore police officer James Weems, her ex-husband, was sentenced to life for molesting at least 3 children at Lil’ Kidz Kastle daycare, run by his now ex-wife, Shanteari Young.
Shanteari reflected on her ex-husband’s life sentence, rebuilding her life, and the importance of protecting vulnerable children.
According to reports, Young will remain in custody at the halfway house until December and is allowed to work during the day. Young expressed gratitude for the support she’s received and aims to start a non-profit, “Opened Umbrellas 4 Lil Kidz,” to help child abuse survivors.
This case has sparked much discussion, highlighting the devastating impact of child abuse and the complexities of justice.
Authorities will release additional information as soon as it becomes accessible to the public.
