Suspect in Santa Monica Shooting Has Been Arrested

The suspect in the shooting death of a Santa Monica police officer on Wednesday, June 25 has been arrested, according to authorities. At approximately 4:35 p.m., he was taken into custody at 998 Ocan Avenue. The suspect left the scene of the shooting before being apprehended.

According to authorities, the gunshot occurred at around 2:10 p.m. PDT during an ongoing robbery on Third Street close to the Santa Monica Place Mall.

It is anticipated that the officer, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, will survive the gunshot wounds. He was treated at UCLA Ronald Regan Trauma Center.

According to the findings of a comprehensive investigation, the suspect is also wanted in connection with the recent Waymo car shooting that claimed two lives earlier this week.

The Santa Monica Police Department asks the public to avoid the area surrounding Santa Monica Place (4th St & Colorado) in order to allow for a safe and efficient investigation by emergency personnel.
