The arrest of a minor on suspicion of second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon in relation to Zarian Simpson’s death was verified by police investigators on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
The probe is still going on.

What Happened To Zarian Simpson
On June 15, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Columbia Police were called to a shooting incident near East Broadway and Old 63.
“Zarian Simpson, an 18-year-old Columbia resident, was found by police wounded by a gunshot. After receiving on-scene treatment from Emergency Medical Services, Simpson was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Simpson later passed away from wounds he received during the shooting.“
Simpson was shot by one of the suspects when they were both driving on the road after he pursued them as they left the site.
This terrible incident has been communicated to Zarian’s nearest of kin.
