Leannedra Kang and Takahiro Toya, 2 Hiker Found Dead

Leannedra Kang and Takahiro Toya Found Dead

Yesterday evening, Thursday, June 5, police officers discovered the remains of Leannedra Kang and Takahiro Toya near a crashed vehicle in northeast Tasmania, confirming that the two tourists who had been missing in Tasmania since Wednesday, June 4, 2025, had been found dead after failing to board their flight back home.

The St. Helens and Scamander region on Tasmania’s east coast is believed to have been the pair’s most recent stop on their recent explorations of the state. Both in their twenties were scheduled to take a Wednesday flight from Launceston to Brisbane, but they never arrived at the airport or gave back their rental car.

Throughout their vacation, Kang had been providing frequent updates, so when she abruptly stopped talking on Tuesday afternoon, her loved ones became concerned.

When Leannedra Kang and Takahiro Toya failed to return their rental car or board their trip home on Wednesday, loved ones started to worry.

According to Inspector Luke Manhood, the deceased couple was discovered close by shortly after police discovered the car in water off Tebrakunna Road at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. He said, “It looks like they were crossing a bridge when the car veered off the road and into the water.”

As is customary, further forensic examinations will be carried out even though preliminary investigations show no suspicious circumstances. If you have any additional information about this tragic event, please call police at 131 444 and quote ESCAD 420-05062025. I would appreciate any information.

The people in the community and those who worked hard to provide information to help with the search are appreciated by Tasmania Police.
