The mother of Lisa Knowles-Smith, the main vocalist of the well-known quartet gospel group Lisa Knowles-Smith and The Brown Singers, Vanessa Brown Knowles, 63, has died.
Vanessa reportedly passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, after a terrible vehicle accident.
The Brown Singers and her daughter Lisa Knowles-Smith are receiving condolence comments on various social media sites in response to the loss of their cherished founding member.
In addition to being an essential member of the Brown Singers, Vanessa was also regarded as family by Freddie L. Poindexter, the group’s founder, and the entire GTA Family.
Many people in the music industry were moved by her impact, and she was a devoted supporter of the Golden Triangle Music Awards.
“We will sincerely miss her presence and loving spirit both in our hearts and during our performances.” a family member said.
Vanessa was one of the original members of the Brown Singers of Memphis, a powerful quartet of women full of power, anointing, soul, and praise, which was founded in 1976 by her late mother, Mother Willie Mae Brown Richmond. Her daughter Lisa began singing with the group at the age of nine. Currently known as the Brown Singers and Lisa Knowles.
Her voice will continue to reverberate through the music and the hearts she touched, and her legacy will be indelibly woven into the fabric of this community.
